Spring is in the air and that means it’s time to work off our “winter growth”.

Unfortunately, finding the time isn’t always easy to do but I’ve decided to not get caught up in the “no time” trap and am starting small. I’m committing to doing 10 minutes of exercise each day and am hopeful that sooner than later, I’ll want to do more.

Don’t you hate when you go shopping and fall in love with something hanging on the rack, only to discover that they don’t have your size. Are you one of the common sizes that always seems to be out of stock? Or are you petite or plus-sized? Those sizes go so quickly, and we totally understand your frustration.

When we started Keylime Athletic Wear, that’s one of the things we took into consideration. We not only wanted to offer Canadian-made but wanted to make sure that our great styles would always be available. Our Keylime custom line is OURS but what does that mean for you? Well, It means that if you come into our store and don’t see your favourite size or colour … we can order it in specifically for you.

And it’s not just the Keylime brand that’s re-orderable, it’s many of the other lines as well. We made an effort to find clothing lines that keep their inventory open and available. If the clothes are still in season with the Manufacturer, we can restock as necessary.

Please keep this in mind when you come in next time. We aren’t like the other big box stores where if you don’t see it, you can’t get it. If you spot something in store, and fall in love, please ask us if we can bring your size in. If it’s still available to us, we’ll happily do that for you.

It’s the little things that make us different. We like that.

My wife brought me a t-shirt home from Keylime, and I didn’t really think too much about it, I just put it on and went to workout. When I got home, she asked me what I thought about the shirt, and I didn’t really think anything, it was a shirt. Guys don’t think about shirts. Well, I wore it again, and she asked me again, and I reminded her that it’s a shirt. After a couple of weeks wearing it, it dawned on me why I never really noticed anything special about the shirt, and it was that it was so soft and light that I wasn’t really “feeling it”. At that moment, I knew what was so awesome about Bamboo. And frankly, I don’t mean to gloat but these Keylime shirts look fabulous on me. I mean, the material and the fit is amazing.

How can you tell if a guy trains his muscles daily to obtain the chiseled look you see on magazine covers if he’s always wearing a suit jacket or dress shirts? Not that there’s anything wrong with that. They have their place as do posing trunks and dark spray on tans. Of course, this isn’t for everyone.

It wasn’t for me either until about a month ago when I decided (with a little encouragement) to show what I’ve worked so hard for, over the last 34 years, without steroids. Add that to 10 weeks of strict dieting and “eating clean”. It all comes down to one day of judging who has the best physique and who can show it off the best on stage. But regardless of the outcome, I will feel great knowing that I have disciplined myself for so long and so hard to be in the best shape of my life.

And I will continue to feel great showcasing my physique in what’s got to be the most comfortable shirt that I’ve ever worn. Along with the pants, hoody’s and shorts that have since made it into my wardrobe. Never thought that I’d be a “yoga wear” kinda guy, but consider this person converted.

Meet One of Our Cooks

Kevin Wiens!
Self proclaimed Home Cook Extraordinaire Kevin Weins enjoys preparing meals for his family and entering the occasional cook off. The Sherwood Park man is known for his award winning Chili recipe… and his can-do attitude in the kitchen. Weins’ chili is inspired by his journey to the Natural Bodybuilding Championshionships, he’s required to eat an all natural diet to compete, and so the clean-eating recipe was born. Weins works as a Probations Officer & Personal Trainer but says he will always have a passion for concocting delicious recipes.

Healthy Breakfast Cookies

Ingredients:

•2 mashed bananas – the darker the better!
•1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
•1-2 Tbsp almond butter
•1/4 teaspoon each of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg
• pinch of ground ginger (optional but tasty)
•zest of 1 medium to large orange (I use a large one)
•2 cups rolled oats
•2 -3 Tbsp ground flax meal or ground chia seeds
•1/3 cup dried fruit (cranberries, regular or golden raisins, currants)
•1/3 cup walnuts (optional)
•1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Combine ingredients and scoop onto baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silpat mat. If you don’t have an ice cream scooper, use your hands to make about a 1/3 cup sized cookie.
3. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Remove cookies to cooling rack.

*Found this recipe on the “Kid tested – Firefighter approved” blog, so I need to give them all the credit. It was just too darned good to not share with all of you!!
